How to Start Changing Limiting Thoughts

Our Happiness and well-being is tied to what we think. So, if you examine your mind, would you say most of your thoughts are positive, harmonious or cynical and negative?

What are some of the Thoughts that lead us Astray and How do we Change them?
Psychologists use the term "cognitive distortion"to describe faulty thinking patterns. Here are some thoughts I hear from clients.
OVERGENERALISING You draw general rules from a specific event, for instance a Relationship doesn't work out and you say "I am unlovable" or "No one will ever love me" and the list goes on. HOW CAN WE CHANGE THAT BELIEF? You could say this is One Experience, just that!
DISQUALIFYING THE POSITIVE You find an excuse to reject positive experiences or statements by finding an ulterior motive for them or simple disbelief. HOW CAN WE CHANGE THAT? You can begin by saying a simple Thank You and consciously practicing accepting positive experiences and statements as Gifts.
EXCESSIVE RESPONSIBILITY, TAKING IT PERSONALLY! When events happen you blame yourself even if it's not your fault. You relate what happens to you and take responsibility even if it isn't yours to take.
HOW DO WE CHANGE THIS? We cannot control people, places or things. Once we account for our part in something, look at the situation and all the other factors at play.

There are many irrational thinking patterns holding us back and that is why we do the work, to free ourselves and achieve Harmony.
